In HK, a psychological doctor is not a profession. Our work, counsellors, is to provide psychological counselling. A psychologist is different from a psychiatrist. A counsellor helps clients manage and address mental health issues such as stress, emotional distress, interpersonal relationship problems, developing interpersonal relations etc., through psychological counselling without the prescription of any medication.

Counsellors also support clients in making changes to their thought processes to address and alleviate their emotional concerns. There are at least ten different types of commonly used psychotherapies.
