In HK, a psychological doctor is not a profession. Our work, counsellors, is to provide psychological counselling. A psychologist is different from a psychiatrist. A counsellor helps clients manage and address mental health issues such as stress, emotional distress, interpersonal relationship problems, developing interpersonal relations etc., through psychological counselling without the prescription of any medication.

In HK, there is no profession known as an emotional disorder doctor. Our work, counsellors, is to support improvement in emotional management. Without the use of prescribed medication, we help clients manage and address stress and emotional distress, solve interpersonal relationship problems, and improve interpersonal relations and other related mental health concerns.

Counsellors employ counselling techniques or psychotherapies to help clients resolve their concerns, walking alongside with them during their healing journey. Counsellors view clients’ concerns through the same lens and apply relevant techniques or interventions to enable clients to re-assess their situations objectively. Counsellors also support clients in making changes to their thought processes to address and alleviate their emotional concerns. There are at least ten different types of commonly used psychotherapies.
